With warmer sunnier days and the snow melting away, it’s clear that Spring is just around the corner. That’s why it goes without saying how amazing it is, that we have a beautiful nature trail right in our backyard, here at HighPoint Apartments. This great location also means that we have a number of great places to explore in our neighboring community, which allows us to get some much-needed fresh air and stretch our legs. I’d like to share a few key locations that are personal favorites and have so much to offer.
Lake Renwick Preserve
Located on Renwick Road, east of Route 30/Lincoln Highway in Plainfield, Lake Renwick Preserve offers an amazing opportunity to just enjoy all that nature has to offer. The preserve protects a 200-acre lake with associated wetland habitat, which is home to a variety of bird species, including the great blue heron and the great egret.
The Nature Preserve features a crushed limestone trail of 1.45 miles, which is ideal for hiking. With the focus on preserving the habitat, pets are not allowed at the nature preserve. Opportunities for bicycling and fishing are available at the Turtle Lake Access.

Prairie Bluff Preserve
With wetland habitats, paved trails & a large picnic shelter, this nature preserve is the perfect haven for those who love great wide open spaces. Prairie Bluff Preserve is located on Renwick Road, east of Weber Road in Crest Hill, and is an ideal location for families to spend quality time along with your four-legged friends.
Prairie Bluff Preserve features a paved trail that stretches across 3.21 miles, which is ideal for biking and hiking. There are also a variety of spaces available for picnicking in the preserve.

Hammel Woods
Hammel Woods is the perfect location to meet any and all of your outdoor needs and is therefore ideal for all those who are adventurous at heart. There are three entry points available, including Route 59, DuPage River access, as well as the Crumby Recreation Area.
The Route 59 Access is located on Route 59, north of Route 52/Jefferson Street in Shorewood. The Route 59 Access features 1.6 miles of natural surface trail as well as 3.77 miles paved segment of the DuPage River Trail, ideal for biking and hiking. There are also three picnic areas available throughout the preserve. Hammel Woods also offers access to shoreline fishing as well as a canoe/kayak launch to further explore the beautiful DuPage River.
