One thing we like to do in our apartment is purge the items we no longer want or need. The items that are in good condition are donated to Good Will, as this gives someone else the chance to enjoy them. If you’re thinking of decluttering, but you’re not sure how to get started, here are several tips for purging the unwanted items in your apartment.
One Room At A Time
Even in an apartment, going through your items can feel like an overwhelming task. My suggestion is to sort through one room at a time. If it helps, you can make a checklist of the rooms you are purging. Once you are finished with a room, you can cross it off your list. This way, you are not leaving a room unfinished, and crossing a room off your list gives you a sense of accomplishment.
Create Separate Piles
When sorting through a room, you want to create separate piles for the items you are giving to a friend, donating to a charity and, if you are looking to make some extra cash, selling. One idea is to place them in labeled or color-coded containers. This way, you know where everything is going once you are finished with a room.
Discard The Damaged Items
You are going to find many items that need to be tossed when sorting through your apartment. Items that are expired, such as snacks, medication and cosmetics, need to be tossed. You want to toss items that are stained beyond use as well. It is also a good idea to see what items can be recycled instead of discarded, such as broken or unwanted electronics.
If you keep the above tips in mind, you are sure to create a clutter-free apartment without feeling too stressed out.
